To fully embrace the new year, we must make some end of year reflections first. A vital part of preparing for the new year is reviewing the past year and to learn from it. So, to go where you need to go and be who you want to be, you must first know who you are now and where you are. You should create an honest self-analysis to gain clarity.
The following list of questions should help you with your self-analysis:
- What did you learn? (skills, knowledge, etc.)
- What did you accomplish?
- What would you have done differently and why?
- What did you complete and what still feels incomplete?
- What were the most significant events of the past year? List your top five.
- What did you do right?
- What do you feel especially good about?
- What was your greatest contribution?
- What were the most fun things you did?
- What wasn’t so fun?
- What were your biggest challenges/difficulties?
- How are you different this year from last year?
- What are you particularly grateful for?
Out with the old and in with the new
From these questions, you should have some clear end of year reflections and now be able to reflect upon what you did, how you felt and what you’ve learned. Once you’ve done this, the next step is to list the things you want this year coming, whether this is experiences, knowledge, material things or even relationships. From this, you’ll be releasing the things you don’t want and embracing the things you do and in turn, you’ll make space for those things. So, make it a great New Year by ending this one on a good note.
